A report warns against certain things you should never tell chatbots powered by artificial intelligence. First and foremost, your real name should be kept confidential. Internet experts caution against revealing the following to AI chat programs, particularly those like “Chat GPT.” According to the report, AI robots can handle complex questions and even perform tasks in an eerily human-like manner. Therefore, it might be tempting at times to divulge personal information, including your name. However, you should avoid doing so at all costs.
Stan Kaminski, an information expert, advises, “Do not send any personal data to the AI chatbot.” You should refrain from sharing information related to the following:
- Passwords
- Passport numbers
- Credit card details
- Addresses
- Phone numbers
- Names
- Other personal data related to yourself, your company, or your clients.
The reason behind this caution lies in the fact that the information you send to an AI chatbot may not always remain private. For instance, “Chat GPT” retains conversations that can later be reused for technical troubleshooting or to prevent service violations. It’s worth noting that your conversations might be reviewed by human moderators.
There’s a possibility that an inadvertent error could lead to the leakage of your conversations, or the AI chatbot might unintentionally share your information with another user. Kaminski emphasizes, “Remember: anything you type into the AI chatbot can be used against you. Additionally, avoid uploading documents to chatbot programs.”
Kaminski’s advice is clear: “Do not upload any documents.” While many add-ons and extra features allow AI chatbots to process documents, there’s a strong temptation to upload work-related documents, such as executive summaries. However, by carelessly uploading multi-page documents, you risk leaking sensitive data or intellectual property—such as the release date of a new product or the entire team’s payroll. It’s best to keep your conversations with chatbots as anonymous as possible12.
